Taking the Hassle out of Christmas Shopping

December 8th, 2008, a day that changed the way I do Christmas shopping. With a husband in his final year of University and exams approaching quickly, a 3 year old daughter, and 6 month old triplets, and I had no Christmas shopping done at all.  Panic set in, how was I ever going to pull of Christmas, and keep within a tight budget?

Hello online shopping!!  Seeing as I wasn’t sleeping at all, and I had tons of time to kill while feeding 3 babies, I decided to do all my shopping online.  Oh, the deals I found, and all the gifts I needed!  No crowds, no driving on bad roads, and all delivered to my door.

Fast forward 8 years, and I still do a majority of my shopping online.  If I can’t buy it online I will research the product online, shop the deals then head to the city to get what I need.

About 80% of my Christmas shopping list is dolls or accessories for dolls, so I have decided to compile a list of where I like to shop for dolls, and share it with you.

Maplelea is my first stop on my online shopping adventure.  It’s no big secret that my favourite dolls are these cute girls, but what you don’t know is that I love their shipping rates.  It’s hard to beat $9.00 shipping per order anywhere in Canada.  The first time I ordered from Maplelea I thought their shipping rate was to good to be true, when I went to checkout I was sure that the shipping fee would have changed with my large order.  Nope, 3 dolls, 3 outfits and 3 brushes all shipped for $9.00, no duty to be paid, and showed up to my door in 5 days.  When they are having sales or discounts on shipping or items it is clearly marked on their website which makes navigating the sales easy.

Amazon is my go to spot for The Queens Treasures, I love their quality, our very first playset for our dolls was The Bake Shop.  I love all the details, and the quality of their items.  I have seen The Queens Treasures on Zulily but I always order it from Amazon as I have the Prime Membership and receive free shipping.

When Target came to Canada Our Generation Dolls entered our home.  Target is no longer in Canada but these dolls can be bought online or instore at The BayMastermind Toys or at Well.ca.  During the Christmas Season they can sometimes be found at CostcoMastermind Toys often has sales on their Our Generation Dolls so make sure you check out their website to see what sales are going on, so you can get the best bang for your buck. Also with Mastermind Toys you can call ahead to make sure the item you want is there, if not they will gladly tell you at which of their locations you can find it.  Don’t forget to ask to have it put on hold!  This helps a lot when its a 45 minute trek to the city.

Toys R Us has been having amazing sales on Journey Girls this year.  Shipping is easy with Toys R Us and even though the clothes are not interchangeable with many of the other 18 inch dolls, their playsets are a ton of fun, and work well with all 18 inch dolls.

American Girl is getting easier to get in Canada through online orders, just remember to click that you are shopping from Canada.  I have never ordered from their site so I have no experience with it. If you’re lucky enough to live near a Chapters that carries American Girl you can shop locally, just be prepared that not all AG items will be found there.  You can also order WellieWishers through Chapters-Indigo.  They ship to your home, and can often be found on sale. Costco has also been carrying American Girl items this year including Bitty Babies.

My next post will include Newberry, My Life, and Creatology as well as a review on using reebee, and Ebates to help save you even more money.
