Review of Our Generation 4×4 and Scooter

Grilled cheese and apple sandwiches, just one of my creations made with my George Foreman Grill.  Ed and I received our Foreman Grill as a wedding present, and it just sat in our pantry not being used.  Anytime I had used it for its intended purpose to cook low-fat meat, the meat was always tough and dry… Ed kindly asked me to stop using it.  So there it sat gathering dust, until one day I thought I would give it a try as a sandwich maker.   This “lean, mean grilling machine” may make terrible chicken burgers, but it definitely makes the best grilled sandwiches around!

Have you ever had an experience like mine, where you bought an item for one purpose, to only find that serves another purpose better?  My George Foreman Grill experience is very similar to my experience with our Our Generation vehicles, allow my boys to demonstrate…

My boys had been up for all of 30 minutes (as you can see the baby is still eating his breakfast) and had already started taking turns riding around in the 4×4!  I have to admit  at first I was very disappointed in how little the 4X4 was used.  I had only seen a doll in there a handful of times, so I decided to move it from the girls’ room to the boys’ play area.  Once I had moved it, I cannot tell you number of times I have had to jump out of the way as this baby goes flying by with one of my kids on top!  Now that I see this 4×4 being played with daily I can tell you it was definitely worth the money.

To see all the features of the Our Generation My Way and Highways 4X4, $55* at Mastermind Toys, please watch my video below:

As you can see it doesn’t have a lot of bells and whistles, and that is perfectly okay with me!  To be honest, I have four children… I don’t need something else in my house making noise, or flashing lights at me.  If you are wondering about the durability, after watching this little jeep go for the past year I can confidently tell you, “it takes licking, and keeps on ticking”!

Next up on my review list today is the Our Generation Ride in Style Scooter, $40* at Mastermind Toys:

Like the 4×4 this scooter doesn’t have a lot of bells whistles either, and I have only seen a doll ride it one time…

…But this little guy, all the time!  This vehicle shows its durability as well, after two years of being ridden by toddlers our scooter is still going strong.

I have absolutely no complaints regarding either vehicle.  There is a problem though with the scooter’s helmet.  While the helmet fits, the Our Generation and American Girl dolls well, it does not fit the Maplelea dolls.  The helmet gets caught on our Maplelea doll’s ears, as you can see in the photo below.  Yes, you can force the helmet to fit but do you really want to do that to your $100* doll?  I am aware that these dolls are vinyl and not real children, but if you feel that they need a helmet that fits properly I recommend buying Maplelea’s Safety Helmet which fits the every 18 inch doll line I have tried it on.

This Maplelea helmet on the right is a much better fit for Charlsea.

Even if you don’t have dolls, and only toddlers I would still recommend both of these vehicles.  You can’t beat the price for either of them, and they bring my boys hours of entertainment, and the giggles are so priceless to me!  I am not letting go of either of these toys, or my Foreman Grill any time soon.

In addition to Mastermind Toys, Our Generation products are available from Well.ca, Costco.ca, and Hudson’s Bay.

This recipe is so easy, and so delicious!

All you need:

  • 2 pieces of bread
  • sliced cheese
  • fresh apple, thinly sliced

Place cheese slices on the two pieces of bread.

On one half arrange apple slices on top of the cheese (see above photo).

Put the two pieces of bread together, and grill until the cheese is melted.

Enjoy!

  1. Too funny! It made me think back to a Tonka Winnebago I had as a girl, and then my nephew adopted it. He rode it around the house constantly. Nice when you find a durable toy, especially these days.
