“You’re only one voice, But over that noise, Just let yourself be heard, A dream that’s all yours, Becomes so much more, Becomes an EXTRAORDINARY WORLD!”
I took inspiration from Saige Paints the Sky when a month ago I contacted American Girl, and asked them why the new American Girl movies were not available in Canada. American Girl was quick to respond and informed me that they had no control over which content Amazon chooses to share with their customers, and encouraged me to contact Amazon Prime directly, so I did just that! Amazon Prime took a little longer to respond, but were very sincere in their response, and told me that they would forward my concerns to the Amazon Video Team. Like Saige would do, I encouraged other Canadians to contact Amazon Prime as well and ask for this change. The next day I was chatting with a friend who shared with me that she had the American Girl movies on her account, so I searched again for the American Girl movies on Amazon Prime and this is what I found:
Melody on Amazon.ca?!?! I quickly downloaded the video, and waited for Dee-dee to get home from school so we could watch it together.
So what did we think of the newest American Girl Story- Melody 1963: Love Has to Win?
First of I want to mention that these new American Girl videos are fairly short, just under an hour in length, so there isn’t a lot of time for story development like the other movies. I thought that they did a great job with the costumes, and the sets keeping everything looking like it was out of the 1960s. My favourite part was when Melody was wearing her mother’s hair dryer as a space helmet, when I was little girl I found one of those in my grandmother’s closet, and I also thought it looked like something from outer space! If you don’t know what I am talking about take a look at the video below:
Dee-dee and I both enjoyed the movie a great deal, my only complaint was that it didn’t seem long enough to fully develop the story or the characters, I would love to see a sequel… or maybe I should just read Melody’s books… Dee-dee pointed out that this movie was very reminiscent of Chrissa’s movie, Chrissa Stands Strong. I have to agree with Dee-dee, bullying certainly hasn’t change through the ages, nor does it stop as you become an adult. Hopefully all that watch this, or Chrissa’s movie will make better choices when it comes to how to we treat one another.
As Dee-dee and I were watching the movie, Ed walked in and wanted to know what we were doing. When I told him that we were watching “Melody” his face lit up, as he knew that I had been contacting both American Girl and Amazon Prime. “You did it!” he exclaimed, I was quick to respond that it may have just been a coincidence… but as far as he was concerned it was me that made the new American Girl movies available to Canadians. You are welcome Canada, now go watch them!
